| Saturday was a much-anticipated day for many people in Argenta. It was the Grand Openingof the Certified Arkansas Farmer’s Market! We had family in town, and we couldn’t wait to take them and show them how busy Argenta is on a Saturday morning.
We’ve been attending the CAFM in Argenta since the first day this year. It’s become a weekly tradition, and one we look forward to every Saturday morning. We were thrilled that CAFM is now a part of the locally grown network of online markets. On Sunday nights, you’ll get an email that you can start ordering. The market closes on Wednesday, and then all the farmers begin their harvest. On Saturday, you pick up what you’ve ordered. It’s the most organized and friendly experience. And after we picked up our produce, our sunflowers, and bought the Argenta Market stand out of their delicious muffins, we headed over to the Art Market. It’s right next door, and again features local artists. They are all outstanding. The concept of the CAFM is truly remarkable. They inspect every farmer who wants to sell at the market. This insures that the goods are grown in Arkansas and the source of the goods is accurate. We have grown to really appreciate this aspect of the CAFM. Since we’re all about living local, the food we put into our mouths should be as local as possible. And we feel good each time we purchase local goods. We know we’re getting a quality product and we’re keeping Arkansas strong. Join us next week! We arrived just in time for the ribbon cutting by the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce. ZaZa’s was cooking brunch pizzas using local ingredients. (We had a slice, too. Squash and zucchini and cheese and a fried egg!) Hot dogs were grilling. And the produce-from sunflowers to shitake mushrooms-was brilliant. We saw lots of friends, and the ministaffers rejoiced in the sun and the music.

I visited the Art Market for the first time this past Saturday and was completely blown away! I love hand-made jewelry and really enjoyed visiting with the artists. It was very difficult not to buy every piece I saw! (Three purchases later I had to put on the brakes – ha!)
The atmosphere among vendors and patrons was so convivial, it was impossible not to linger and take it all in. I think the art market is a fine accompaniment to the CAFM; I have no doubt both will continue to grow and grow.
