Cavernous Beauty

May 6, 2010

You may think that anyone can take a picture.  But a really good picture – a picture that catches your eye and invites you into its world – is much more difficult to capture.  That’s why we love it when we see good photography.

The William F. Laman Public Library’s current exhibit has some of those photographs.  Lasting Light: 125 Years of Grand Canyon Photography is a fantastic compilation of photographs over the years.  From early photographs of some of the earliest explorers and settlers in the Grand Canyon, to today’s top photographers, this is an exhibit that makes you lose sense of time.

We were intrigued with the story of the Kolb Brothers, who ventured to the Grand Canyon in 1903 and set up a photography studio on the edge of the canyon.  And we were humbled by the beauty of all the seasons, the wildlife, and the simple yet breathtaking beauty captured in recent photographs.

The Smithsonian sponsored this exhibit.  The quality of the photographs and the story behind them will make anyone who walks through the doors want to know more and experience the beauty for themselves.

Isn’t it lucky you’re already at the library?
