If you’ve read our installments of Hot in Argenta for any length of time, you’ll agree that we think the Argenta area of North Little Rock is a very special place. The leaders and business owners in the area have banded together to continually build and grow this area.
Looking around, half of the businesses in Argenta weren’t here five years ago. It’s amazing to see the growth that has occurred in such a short time frame. And much of the vision and success of this growth is due to the support and encouragement of the Argenta Downtown Council.
Through the ADC’s safe, clean, green initiative, we’ve seen sidewalks transformed, flowers bloom, and art appear. The ADC has worked tirelessly to continue to make sure Argenta is a vital and growing neighborhood.
On Wednesday, May 11, the ADC will host its Fourth Annual Luncheon. This is their major fundraiser of the year and always brings in top notch speakers who are the leaders in revitalization in their cities. This year is no exception, as they will feature Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. from Charleston, S.C. as the keynote speaker.
Mayor Riley was first elected to his current position in 1975 and is currently serving his ninth term. That’s pretty impressive. Through his leadership, Charleston has seen revitalization in its downtown business district, as well as decreasing crime and increasing population.
This promises to be a very informative luncheon as we learn about how Mayor Riley has worked to increase public safety, arts, culture, economic revitalization and public spaces. As we continue to support and watch Argenta grow into a vital and liveable community, we know Mayor Riley’s message will provide great resources and insight.
